Full Swing

The full swing is simple because it’s not a complicated athletic move. You don’t have to have good genes, great strength, perfect feel, god-given quickness, or agility to swing a golf club. With hard work, anybody can do it. I would also say it is not easy. Nor is it easy to swing down and through a shot, hitting down on the ball and taking a divot out of the turf when your objective is to get the ball up in the air. Hit down to make the ball fly up? It doesn’t make sense!

There are lots of other examples of the golf swing defying conventional wisdom. If you want the ball to curve right, you swing the club to the left of the target. And if you want the ball to curve left, you swing the club to the right. It seems backwards, unnatural, and at times downright crazy, but that doesn’t mean that it is difficult. Granted the golf swing can cause serious headaches if you don’t understand how it works, but once you grasp the fundamentals of the swing, you’ll find that the learning process isn’t that difficult. You swing the club back with your shoulders, arms, hands and return it to the ball using your hips and legs to generate maximum speed at the nanosecond when club meets ball, an instant golfers call “impact”. There’s no magic or mystery. The motion is fluid and simple. It’s just not easy. And the difference between simple and easy rests in what our minds and bodies are accustomed to doing.
